Getting to Kingfisher Bay Resort

The Kingfisher Bay Resort is situated on Fraser Island and reachable via ferry from the Mainland Reception River Heads (Shop 7/54, River Heads Shopping Village, River Heads Road, River Heads, Queensland 4655 - Please click here to view the map).

IMPORTANT: Please check ferry times carefully before booking airfares and allow enough travelling time. The travelling time with the ferry is 50 minutes and it is approximately 15 minutes drive from Mainland Reception River Heads to the Hervey Bay/Fraser Coast airport. 
A return bus and ferry transfers will be provided for delegates flying to/from Hervey Bay Airport (more details are available on the tab "Airport Bus transfer & ferry transfer" below). AIRPORT BUS TRANSFERS & PASSENGER FERRY TRANSFERS

A return bus and ferry transfers will be provided for delegates flying to/from Hervey Bay Airport. Please make sure you select the "airport bus & ferry combo ticket" during the registration process or log back into your registration profile to reserve it from the "Add-ons" menu. The ticket includes a return bus transfer (Hervey Bay Airport - Mainland Reception River Heads) and return passenger ferry transfer (Mainland Reception River Heads - Kingfisher Bay Resort).
If you are travelling with children aged 0-14 yo, please send an email to the Conference Secretariat (Daniela Sabolo - email) indicating their name and age and she will book a child combo ticket for you.

The bus will transfer you from the airport to the Mainland Reception River Heads for check-in. Guests are advised to arrive at the Mainland Reception River Heads to check-in 40 minutes prior to the ferry departure time. Luggage is weighed and the resort’s porters will deliver it directly to guest rooms on the island. A courtesy shuttle transfer from Mainland Reception to the jetty will leave 10 minutes prior to the next available ferry service.

Luggage Policy
Each guest may check in two (2) items of luggage, weighing a maximum of 25 kilos each. Additional items to be checked in will incur a handling fee of $5AUD per item.


Caring for Wheelchair bound guests during the transport
The Kingfisher Bay ferry is fitted with a chair lift for the convenience of disable guests. Please advise in advance id this service will be required.
Transport from Mainland Reception River Heads to the ferry departure point will be in a courtesy coach that is not equipped with wheelchair ramps, guests wishing to use this service will need to be able to get on and off the vehicle aided by passengers travelling with them and the driver. If this is not possible, please advise in advance Daniela at ASN Events (email), so that we can make alternate arrangements to provide transport to and from the island.

 
BY CAR AND FERRY

DRIVING TO THE FERRY TERMINAL YOURSELF?

From Brisbane 

The journey is approximately 4 - 4 1/2 hours drive north of Brisbane City. Join the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane. Stay on the highway through Gympie then take the Maryborough exit off the Highway onto the Maryborough Hervey Bay Road.
From Maryborough, follow the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road North toward Hervey Bay (16.8 kms). At the large round-about, take the Booral Road exit and travel for approximately 12 kms. Then, turn right into River Heads Road and travel a further 9.6kms to arrive at Kingfisher Bay's Mainland Reception located at River Heads Shopping Village (on your right hand side). River Heads Road is locally named Ariadne Street.

From Bundaberg
The journey is approximately 1.5 hours drive south. Follow the Bruce Highway south.Turn off at Torbanlea and follow signs to Hervey Bay (21kms). Turn left onto the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road. Travel 0.7kms and turn right on to Booral Road. Travel for approximately 12 kms, then turn right into River Heads Road and travel 9.6kms to arrive at Kingfisher Bay's Mainland Reception located at River Heads Shopping Village (on your right hand side). River Heads Road is locally named Ariadne Street.

IMPORTANT:

  • Guests are advised to arrive at the Mainland Reception River Heads to check-in 40 minutes prior to the ferry departure time.

  • Secure car park facilities are adjacent to the Mainland Reception River Heads (see information below). Due to high season period, a pre-reservation is required

  • Vehicle ferry transfers must be pre-booked directly with the Kingfisher Bay Resort reservations team on + 61 7 4194 9300 or 1800 072 555 (within Australia). Please check car parking rates and availability with the Kingfisher Bay Resort reservations team. 

 


SECURE PARKING
Secure car park facilities are adjacent to the Mainland Reception River Heads and are open from 08:00 am to 6:30 pm. Upon check-in at Mainland Reception, guests will be issued with a secure pin number to gain access to the parking facilities. Bookings are highly recommended and can be made directly with the Kingfisher Bay Resort reservations team on + 61 7 4194 9300 or 1800 072 555 (within Australia). Please check car parking rates and availability with the Kingfisher Bay Resort reservations team.
Due to high season period, a pre-reservation is required.

 

FERRY TRANSFER 
Kingfisher Bay Resort operates scheduled services daily from River Heads to the resort. Please make sure you select the "Passenger ferry ticket only" during the registration process or log back into your registration profile to reserve it from the "Add-ons" menu.

LETTER OF INVITATION

Invitation letters can be downloaded from your registration dashboard. This letter assists with your Visa application. You will be able to download an invitation letter once you have paid for your registration fee in full and have entered in your passport details.

VISA APPLICATION

ALL travellers to Australia must have a valid visa before boarding their flight.
Travellers to Australia cannot apply for a visa on arrival. For many countries, the visa is paperless and added automativally to your air ticket. Check with your travel agent if uncertain.

CURRENCY AND EXCHANGE

The official currency of Australia is the Australian Dollar (AUD) Australian currency is comprised of notes and coins and are of decimal currency. In view of the currency, you may occasionally see prices such as $2.98, this figure is rounded up to the nearest five cents, in this case $3.00
Money exchanges can be found all around the city and most major tourist destinations. Banks also offering money exchanging services and cashing of travellers cheques.
Throughout the city you will find Currency Exchange desks, most hotels also have exchange rates at the Reception Desk, however, some hotels have a limit to what you can exchange.

BANKS AND BANKING HOURS

Normal banking hours are Monday - Thursday 9:30am-4:00pm and Fridays 9:30am-5:00pm, excluding public holidays. 24 Hour Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) can be found throughout the City and Shopping Centres.

ELECTRICITY
